1.00 EkaPad techniques

Username & password trick

You can make passwords very complex or long, since once they are in the EkaPad you never need to type them again. Caution: Store one password with only 6 or 7 letters and perhaps a numeral or two, because quite a few web sites will not accept more complicated passwords - no symbols.

To make entering usernames and passwords faster and easier, use the Keep feature. Enter both the username and the password, separated by the Tab chord, into one Keep register. Then to use, with the cursor in a UserName box, access the Keep register and the username is entered into the UserName box and the password is automatically selected and the password is entered.

For example: P&R (Press and Release) the Keep Enter chord twice, P&R the chords for a number, the storage register, (47 for example), enter username then P&R Tab chord then password then P&R Keep Access chord. The username and password are now stored in a Keep (47 for example).

To access, put the cursor into the username request box, P&R the Keep Access chord twice, P&R the number (47 for example), and the username and •••••• are entered in automatically.

Some useful Keeps

In Keep 1, I store http://www. (external link)

For filling in info when purchasing from the web, I use the 60 series of Keeps: 60 = first name, 61 = last name, 62 = first last name, 63 = place address, 64 = street address, 65 = City, 66 = State, 67 = Zip, 68 = Country, 69 = phone.

Some useful ShortCuts

Most of my ShortCuts are for using with specific applications, but the first 9 (single finger chords) I reserve for global applications. 1 and 2 are for taking screen shots, 4, 5, 6 are for controlling windows on the desktop, and 9 is for ForceQuit because damaged DVDs often lock the computer up and this allows me to fix things without shutting down the computer.

Keeping a record of your Keeps and ShortCuts

I use a 3x5 card format to store a record of the Keeps and Shortcuts I've entered in to EkaPad memory. This format is convenient and siminar in size to the printed CheatSheet I always keep handt. I use the InDesign application and layout four 3x5 spaces and then enter the stored data into lines marked by the number which represents the register in which the data is stored. A word processing program with the document size set to 3x5 inches also works. After displaying the items I then print and cut the cards to size.

Caution: Reconfiguring Number Pad layout

If you change the configuration of the number pad, the numerals representing the locations of your Keeps and ShortCuts change. What doesn't change is the actual key pads you pressed to select the storage register when entering the Keep or ShortCut. So if you reconfigure the Npad layout after entering a Keep or ShortCut, your numbered record will not be correct. You can always access saved Keeps and ShortCuts by using the original KEY sequence.

10-ones: Npad configuration when using 10-ones feature

The CheatSheet displays the Npad Phone number layout for the 10-ones feature for creating single finger shortcuts in an application. Which ever Npad layout you use, the 10-ones feature will work. Just follow the steps using the Npad layout you've selected. Caution: If you reconfigure your chosen Npad layout after entering a 10 sequencial set of ShortCuts, and try to use the orginal list you made for 10-ones, you will find  the ShortCuts will not match your list.
